Searching for Clarity

When I first discovered Murad’s Acne Treatment Concealer it was like a revelation.  All these years I had been covering my breakouts with chalky oil-free concealers that despite all the promises of being non-comeodogenic, always seemed to make the problem worse.

It wasn’t until I was at Sephora one Saturday afternoon buying new tinted moisturizer (and eyeshadows, lipglosses, blush, and all the other amazing beauty products that I can never pass up) when the woman helping me color-match my moisturizer matter-of-factly told me that my best bet would be an acne-fighting concealer.  “What?” I looked at her quizzically.  I know a lot about beauty products, but I couldn’t comprehend what this was.   Surely by acne-fighting she simply meant something oil-free or non-comeodogenic or all-natural, right?  “It will become part of your skin treatment program,” she said, and not skipping a beat, “let me show you.”  With that she led me to the Murad wall at the opposite side of the store, pointed out the little tube of concealing wonder, and my skin hasn’t been the same since.

The Secret Revealed

So what is this concealer that changed my skin care routine forever?  Murad’s Acne Treatment Concealer is a two-in-one formula that disguises breakouts and (here’s the kicker) treats them, too.  It contains Salicylic Acid to heal and prevent new blemishes while providing coverage that isn’t chalky and won’t worsen the breakout.  It also contains Vitamin A to help regulate oil production and a Green Tea Extract, an antioxidant-rich blend providing protection against free-radicals.

The bottom line–not only does it hide the redness for a more even-looking complexion, it actually heals your blemishes while you wear it, so no more feeling guilty or apprehensive about putting makeup on a breakout.  Genius!

What is Salicylic Acid?

Salicylic acid is in a class of medications called keratolytic agents (a peeling agent).  Topical salicylic acid, like that in this concealer, treats acne by unplugging blocked skin pores allowing the breakout to shrink and reducing redness and swelling.  It’s a common ingredient in acne-fighting beauty products and one that has proven to be effective in blemish management.
