Wedding Planning Secrets
Search the web these days for wedding details and you’ll find a million resources and inspiration for planning your wedding. I planned my wedding last August and spent every minute after I was engaged planning my dream wedding. I lived and breathed all things wedding for a year and half, religiously following hundreds of wedding blogs on a daily basis for details and inspiration. Ample time to plan my wedding also meant plenty of time to change my mind on design, decor, and the overall feel of my wedding. Having the online resources that we have today can be extremely helpful; however, the amount of information and examples of other weddings can be overwhelming and can result in a sensory overload. Below are 4 must-dos in successful wedding planning.
1. Pick one central theme/colors scheme for your wedding and stick to it. With all of the inspiration that is out there in the blog world, it is hard not be swayed by each new gorgeous wedding that is featured. I found myself torn between a rustic look versus a more classic look in the middle of my planning, despite having purchased a number of decor items for the one of them.
2. Be true to yourself. Right now there are a lot of brides opting for a rustic look for their weddings. In the middle of my planning, after viewing hundreds of weddings online with that look, I fell in love and wanted to incorporate rustic details into my wedding {I even went out and bought a vintage typewriter}. But when I really thought about it, I realized that rustic isn’t me {or my husband}. I am a girly girl who loves all things pink, classic, and glamorous.
3. It’s all in the details. The details you put into your wedding are what makes it special and unique to you. I enlisted family and friends to help with DIY touches and searched etsy, sales, and wedding boards {brides selling things they used in their weddings} to create minute details that showed our guests that we appreciated them being a part of our day {and for the gift of sending us on our honeymoon}.
4. Don’t forget about the ceremony. With all of the design and decor ideas floating around in my head, I almost forgot about the ceremony itself! Yes, you would think that this is the first thing a bride would think about in planning her wedding, but it’s easy to get caught up in the whole event design and forget about the most important part of the wedding itself. With the help of our officiant, online resources, and books, we created and wrote our own ceremony. The fact that we spent time together writing what we wanted to be said at the ceremony gave it that much more meaning when we were standing at the altar.
